Liver Transplant Support Group
All patients with liver disease, their families and caregivers benefit from the FAIR Foundation's caring, supportive network of transplant-concerned people who want to help each other at what is a difficult time in a person's life. The Liver Transplant Support Group offers emotional and educational support, and referral for transplant if needed. Get on the mailing list for meeting information...
The group was started in 2001 by Dr. Richard Darling, FAIR Foundation founder and three time liver transplant recipient, and Jack Burke, also a liver transplant recipient. Over thirty patients have received liver and kidney transplants who would not otherwise have received a transplant or would have wasted precious time trying to find the correct avenue to proper care; care that has not been available in the Coachella Valley until this past year. Through Dr. Darling’s persistent efforts, Scripps Green Hospital’s Transplant Center, University of California San Diego’s Transplant Center and Loma Linda Hospital’s Transplant Center have started seeing patients locally, minimizing the long drives for patients receiving pre- and post- transplant health care.
The group welcomes patients and caregivers from Riverside, San Bernadino and San Diego counties. We often have physicians from our local transplant centers as co-moderators and guest speakers. We refer patients for transplant locally to the following transplant centers:
Loma Linda University Transplant Institute
11234 Anderson Street
Loma Linda, CA 92354
Scripps Green Hospital
10666 N. Torrey Pines Rd.
La Jolla, CA 92037
UC San Diego Health System
200 W. Arbor Drive
San Diego, CA 92103
Support Group Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at the Portola Community Center, 45-480 Portola Avenue, in Palm Desert, CA. For more information, please email Jack Burke.
The support group is offered as a free community service by the FAIR Foundation.
